Kreidler was founded in Kornwestheim, which is located between Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart. Anton Kreidler created "Kreidlers Metall- und Drahtwerke" (Kreidlers metal and wire factory) in 1903 and began manufacturing motorcycles in 1951. In 1959, these motorcycles accounted for one-third of all German motorcycles. It had a lot of success in motorsport in the 1970s. Jan de Vries and Henk van Kessel were particularly successful in the Netherlands. After re-establishing his father's Stuttgart plant after the war ended in 1945, Alfred Kreidler began making 50cc two strokes in 1950. Although Garelli produced several mopeds with its emblem in 1988, and a Dutchman was still creating limited quantities of special order Floretts after 2000, the last authentic Kreidlers were built in 1983.
